Title: Overseas Dissemination and Research: A Review of The Cross-cultural Reappearance of Ancient Chinese Women’s Poetry

Abstract: In the context of globalization and the mutual learning of civilizations, the research on the overseas dissemination of ancient Chinese women’s literature is evolving from fragmented translation descriptions to systematic academic construction. The book Dissemination and Research of Ancient Chinese Women Poets in the English-Speaking World outlines the trajectory of the dissemination and reception of ancient Chinese women’s poetry in the English-speaking world from the 16th century to the early 21st century through a diachronic review and a vast amount of textual research work. This work integrates translation practice, gender studies, and literary reception into cross-cultural research. It not only transcends the opposition of the “China-West binary” model but also breaks through the limitations of “gender essentialism”. By combining detailed textual analysis with theoretical perspectives, it proves that ancient Chinese female poets are not only an integral part of the local literary tradition but also important participants in world literature. This has opened up dimensions and directions for the study of gender and literature in China, presenting the evolution of the Western world’s understanding of ancient Chinese women’s poetry and revealing the collision and integration of gender studies in different cultural contexts. This article analyzes the academic contributions of this book in the field of cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and foreign countries from three dimensions: the global nature of the dissemination of ancient Chinese women’s poetry, the interactive logic between translation variations and research, and the concept of two-way generated dissemination.

Keywords: Ancient Chinese Women’s Poetry; Cross-cultural Communication; Gender Poetics
