Title: The International Communication of Spatial Literary Theory: A Review of Spatial Literary Criticism by Fang Ying

Abstract: Spatial Literary Criticism, a newly published academic work by professor Fang Ying, probes systematically into spatial literary studies, a cutting-edge field of literary studies. In this monograph, professor Fang not only untangles the historical and theoretical context of spatial literary criticism, but also systematically explores into the outset, evolution, main fields of discourse and branches of spatial literary studies as well as the main types of space. Moreover, through the combination of spatial theories and close reading of the text, Fang respectively discusses two cutting-edge topics: space and power, and space and existence. In addition, the conclusion focuses on the research paradigm and problematics of spatial literary criticism, presenting different approaches to literary criticism. As a whole, this book not only integrates Western spatial theories, but also incorporates Professor Fang’s reflections on space, serving as a model of transnational and interlingual academic interaction. It promotes the international communication of spatial literary theories as well as reflects Fang Ying’s theoretical self-awareness as a local spatial theorist. What’s more, it presents a grand scene of spatial literary criticism with the integration of historicalness, interdisciplinary perspective, systematicness and academic theoreticalness.
