Title: The Road of Tang Poetry Traveled by Abe no Nakamaro
Abstract: The cultural exchanges between China and Japan reached an unprecedented level of prosperity during the Tang Dynasty. The Maritime Silk Road from China’s coastal areas to Japan had matured. In order to learn the advanced culture of the Tang Dynasty, Japan dispatched envoys to China continuously for more than 200 years. Abe no Nakamaro, a foreign student, was an outstanding representative among them. He forged deep friendships with poets such as Li Bai and Wang Wei. One of his poems about longing for his hometown while looking at the moon became an eternal masterpiece. Abe no Nakamaro’s study abroad journey was like a road of Tang poetry. This article interprets Abe no Nakamaro’s poems from multiple perspectives, demonstrating the past and present of the poem Admiring The Moon in Mingzhou, as well as the historical and cultural inheritance behind it.
